Collecteur is built on the belief that personal care products should be made of organic, non-toxic, pure and safe ingredients, and period products are a great place to start. Why, you ask? Allow us to explain…
The vagina is the most permeable organ in a woman’s body; it absorbs up to 80% more toxins than when exposed to the same toxins orally. As tampons are considered a medical device, businesses have the right to not disclose their ingredient list. Shocking, we know. In fact, 84% of women aren’t sure what tampons are made from, and are still inserting them into their most permeable organ.
This may come as a shock, but traditional tampons are made from conventional cotton, which is one of the dirtiest crops out there. Over 95% have 7 of the 10 toxins rated by the WHO as ‘moderately-to-highly’ hazardous to your health, known to cause diseases, disruptions and reproductive related issues. As women, we use approximately 11,000 tampons in our lifetime; Collecteur refuses to succumb to these standards. We can do better, as women, for women.
With that in mind...
Collecteur believes that toxin-free period products are the only way forward and are therefore proud to offer tampons made from the highest standard of cotton, GOTS and OCS certified organic cotton. Unlike standard organic cotton, GOTS guarantees that 95% of the cotton is 100% organic, from seed to stitching, and prohibits the use of commonly used chemicals that cause serious diseases and disruptions. It also ensures the cotton is ethically grown.
Beyond crafting products that are safe for our bodies, Collecteur ensures all products are made with the safety of our planet in mind. Our tampon applicators are fully recyclable, and our pads are made with 100% GOTS certified organic topsheet, and mater-bi backsheet, which is fully biodegradable. Our body cloths are made from organic cottonas well, and each of our product wrappers are recyclable.
While we are proud of our current portfolio of product offerings and the ways they are improving our bodies and our planet's health, Collecteur is constantly innovating our packaging and product, based on new findings on clean ingredients, both for our bodies and for the planet. Stay tuned for more and all that's to come on our journey...
Philanthropy
One in three Canadian women under the age of 25 have struggled to pay for period products. Yes - you read correctly: one in three. Just as alarmed as we are? This is only a glimpse into what period poverty looks like...
Globally, a minimum of 500 million women experience period poverty, resulting in being unable to afford period products. All women should have access to these basic needs, which is why we are proud to be doing our part in closing the gap in period poverty, through your support.
You can feel good about each purchase you make with Collecteur, as a portion is donated to helping women get access to period products. Moreover, Collecteur is committed to using our platform to continuously educate girls and women on menstruation and all things health.
